Coding Stable Diffusion from Scratch Using PyTorch and Using Amazon for Any Query
Some very interesting links in artificial intelligence today!
Morning y’all!
I have to head to an eye appointment today where they’re going to dilate the hell out of my eyes and so I’m going to have migraines for the rest of the day. ヽ༼ ಠ益ಠ ༽ノ
But, it’s been 3-4 years since I saw an eye doctor and it’s about time, especially since I have health insurance and should probably take advantage of it. Ahhhhh.
I hope you have a better day than me!

I simply cannot believe this works (so you must try it yourself)! Login to Amazon.com, go to any product, scroll down to the “Looking for specific info?” section and type in a query like you would ChatGPT. Oh! So, why pay for ChatGPT when you can use Amazon.com for free? So hilarious. Either they’re whitelabeling an existing service / GPT or their using their own “Rufus” build — I can’t tell which one though. Wild.
Title says it all, but, they only highlight 4 of them: ElevenLabs, Speechify, WellSaid, and Listnr. A good price breakdown too.
ChatGPT might be the best one out there but it can’t beat Google Search apparently; even last month we saw Google’s search market share grow to 91.1% while ChatGPT fell 12%. Old habits die hard.
Sequoia Ventures on the gap between the (massive) amount of capital investment in generative AI and the revenue that will be needed to justify it.
Goldman’s CIO on deploying generative AI:
Marco Argenti of Goldman Sachs presented the big investment bank’s AI strategy as one that combines foundation models with smaller, more specialized models aimed at particular tasks.
When it comes to trading, Argenti noted that the bank had been honing machine learning models for many years, and the current LLMs didn’t yet offer better investing results than its current trading technology. Long-term, though, the ability to process far more data, and test hypotheses, could change that, he said.
But outside of just trying to find great trades, there is also a lot that can be done to improve efficiency and productivity for Goldman. “Last year we had something like a million meetings,” he said. “How many of them require a briefing? That’s two million hours that could be saved with AI.”
He also conjured a scenario of large foundational models, which are better at reasoning, and more specialized models, which are more accurate, working together on a complex question.
“We send it first to a larger model, ChatGPT or Gemini, and get the essence of the question, and then break it down into tasks,” which are then performed by more specialized, fact-based models, with the results then returned to the bigger model. He referred to it as “orchestration” among models. “Applications on top of the bigger model, it creates a flywheel effect,” he added.
This amazing creative build a graphic novel (almost) entirely via Stable Diffusion!
Bessemer’s ’State of AI Cloud’ report. (Subtext: generative AI is starting to mature into separate segments at least enough for people to produce stand-alone analysis about those segments.)
I know the folks at Bessemer and they’re a decent crew.
Microagent is an AI *gasp* agent that writes and fixes code for you.
So how good is ChatGPT at coding and writing code, really? This report suggests that success rates range from less than 1% to 89% depending on task and language.

Japan's Defense Ministry just released its inaugural basic policy on the use of artificial intelligence in military applications, aiming to tackle recruitment challenges and keep pace with global powers in defense technology.

Apparently a16z is gathering more than 20,000 GPUs to attract AI startups. It’s not just about capital, it’s about strategic resources and this is a smart move.
A criminally-underrated YouTube channel. Here they share how to code Stable Diffusion from scratch using PyTorch. Damn. Cool.
Finally, want some free wifi on flights?
A developer discovered a way to access the internet for free while clicking through an airline's Wi-Fi payment menu. This article discusses how they exploited this discovery to develop a tool that allowed them to access the full internet for free, albeit at a very slow pace. The exploit involves editing data on the developer's airmiles account to send and receive HTTP requests and responses.
Enjoy that! Have a great rest of your day!
